Wild About Harry, created by Gerald Isaac and Peter Mann, opens in the year of the horseless carriage, 1902. We then move forward in time through the 1920s and '30s when the stockmarket crashed. The only industry that prospered during the great depression was showbusiness. So, of course, we find ourselves in Hollywood during its glory days. Harry then carries us to the 1940s with a trip across America stopping in the Wild, Wild West. On to World War II where our boys were shipped off to a fate they couldn't have imagined and our girls were left at home to endure. But, as with most musicals, all endings are happy. Harry Warren composed more than 500 songs for no less than 115 different movies between 1928 and 1981 -- Lullaby of Broadway, That's Amore, I Only Have Eyes For You, We're In The Money and You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby. It's no wonder that the first gold record awarded was for one of Harry's, the Glenn Miller Orchestra's rendition of Chattanooga Choo Choo. |
